ABOUT US and our software

August Systems serves all segments of the home-care agency market with information management software and support services. Our clients range in size from startups to multi-location regional giants. We take pride in building lasting relationships, nurturing them through product innovation and outstanding support.

Company Background

August Systems, Inc. has its base of operation in Spokane, WA. Its main product, Visit Wizard, satisfies a wide range of home-care agency needs.

We sell Visit Wizard through our own sales force, as well as through our Sales Agent network. All support, however, is handled by our staff.

Our support services include system design, installation, training, on-going user support, and software updates. We also accommodate special client needs, such as on-site training and management consulting.  …more

Product Technology

Visit Wizard software has proved to be remarkably flexible and robust over the years. Our clients have benefited by being able to modularly grow the capability of their system.

Visit Wizard software is built in-house on a select set of computer industry standards. We acquire outside soft-ware only if it meets our standards. This discipline allows us to offer small or large systems, with basic or advanced function, and keep them current with changing user needs.

MORE INFORMATION

MORE ON COMPANY BACKGROUND

MORE ON PRODUCT TECHNOLOGY

The company was founded in 1994 by Glen and Judy Martin. The founders' resume includes a productive record of software development, plus hands-on experience in managing a home-care agency.

Before August Systems, the Martins had founded another medical software company, Wismer Martin, Inc., which developed Physician Practice systems. Their product philosophy was then, and still is, "if clients can't recoup their investment quickly through labor savings and quality improvement, don't build it." Listening to our clients, and staying true to this philosophy, allows us to build our success on the success of our clients.

To develop a personal feel for the home-care agency business, the Martins purchased a majority interest in a struggling Medicare-Certified agency in northern Idaho. The twin challenges of Medicare compliance and actionable management information resulted in the development of Visit Wizard's Scheduling and Clinical Charting modules.

The Martins still own the home-care agency in Idaho but, over time, its practice has shifted to Private Duty care. Private Duty agencies face a different challenge: how to monitor the home-care aides in the field cost-effectively. Visit Wizard's Clockwork telephony module answers that need. It was tried out first in their agency, before being released to other clients.

We take the same approach with all new software. We identify a beta test site-our own or a cooperating client's-where the software can be refined before its general release. Beta testing allows us to predict, with confidence, how large a gain in efficiency and quality our other clients can expect.

Over the years, our clients have migrated from Windows® 95 to Windows XP without having to convert their data. They routinely add remote users and branch locations, without having to throw away what they have. And, our users master new capabilities like telephony, without having to "unlearn" what went before.

A client once remarked, "My Visit Wizard system has actually gained in value with time, even though we depreciate it on our books."

Our software is based on today's standard open technologies from the operating system/network to the database to the user interface. August Systems combines Microsoft Windows products with Microsoft or Novell networking with Extended Systems data management to deliver powerful, flexible, cost-effective solutions.

We use ODBC/SQL to allow open data access and reporting not found in proprietary systems. We believe in "point and click" system navigation. We insist data base access be scaleable from one user to a thousand. We pride ourselves on choosing proven technology to assure product stability. But we also believe in implementing new standards as soon as they can benefit our clients.
